A Gentle Guide to Retinoids for Beginners

Retinoids are vitamin A derivatives widely used in dermatology for texture, tone and blemish-prone skin. Because they can cause dryness at first, a gradual introduction matters.
Begin with a pea-sized amount two or three nights per week, applied to dry skin, followed by a moisturiser. Increase frequency only as your skin tolerates it.
Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is essential, as retinoids can increase sun sensitivity. Prescription-strength options should only be used under medical supervision, and retinoids are not recommended during pregnancy.
